Eating a Spider is Probably Never The Solution

A Semi-Autobiographical Poem About Choices

There was a young lady who ate something winged
– well, more like inhaled and gagged on the thing.

In the blink of an eye, she sucked in some moth
that stuck to her throat and caused her to cough.

For several hours, she continued to hack,
wishing she could give that one breath back.

She had always innocently sung of the plight
of that lady who’d ingested a bug in flight.

Never again will she feel bad for the fly.
That old woman probably wanted to die.

But she would say, “Nope” to the spider that followed.
She was much choosier about what she swallowed.

Instead the young woman took a lesson away.
Inhale through your nose before a bug wrecks your day.
